French Anti-Zionist Party

File this in the “Just when you thought it couldn’t get worse” category:
France’s comedian Dieudonné M’bala M’bala has created a political party to run in the upcoming parliamentary elections.  The French high court threw out a petition to ban this party from running in the elections as a racist party.
Their platform essentially states the [...]

Palestinians vs. Israel – We’re in the Third Phase

I read an interesting interview yesterday with a Rabbi from a program that specializes in keeping religious soldiers on the path of learning Torah _after_ they leave the army. I can’t remember the Rabbi’s name, but this was the gist of his argument on why Hamas and Palestinians seem to be gaining so much [...]

More Bet Shemesh Garbage

Following up on yesterday’s post, to the credit (sic!) of the perpetrators of yesterday’s mess, by this morning, most if not all of them were cleaned up.
However, not to be undersold, today’s leaflet shows that the old bard still has some fight left in him!
Well, I’m impressed that at least this time someone is fessing [...]

Garbage Politics – Bet Shemesh Style

It’s just a few days before the local municpal elections and the “dirty” politics of Bet Shemesh are heating up.
Residents of Bet Shemesh woke up this morning to a blanket of leaflets all over the streets of Dolev, HaYarkon, HaYarden, and more.  The latest leaflets have been particularly nasty in language, at least for the [...]

Obama Won, What does it mean for Israel?
Barack Obama is President Elect of the US for less than one day and already the pundits are giving their dark forecasts for what will happen to Israel during his presidency.

Vaknin’s Big Coming Out Party

Tonight was Danny Vaknin’s big support rally for the upcoming Bet Shemesh mayoral election next month.  Much of the Likud (and Mafdal) elite were there.
Who was there from the national political scene?  Silvan Shalom, Ruby Rivlin, Limor Livnat, Gilad Arnon, Chaim Katz, Zvi Hendel, and Yitzchak Levi.  Where was Bibi Netanyahu,  Miki Eytan, Gideon Ezra?  [...]

Listen to Israel Radio on the Internet

I remember as a kid in Chicago how I used to walk around the house (and neighborhood) and try to find the best spot for reception on my shortwave radio. In those days, tuning in to Israel Radio was like catching an ephemeral glimpse of far away land.  At 4pm in the afternoon, [...]

Vaknin Strikes back in Bet Shemesh

Do posters equal voters?  As I reported last week, Shalom Lerner has a huge “poster” lead in Ramat Bet Shemesh Aleph, and in Sheinfeld / Givat Sharet.
The battle lines have been drawn.  Shalom Lerner has the majority of posters up in RBS.  Aside froma couple for Sheetrit, and one for Abutbul, I think Lerner has [...]

Elections in Bet Shemesh – Shalom Lerner Has the Lead in Banners

Believe it or not, another five years has passed, and it’s time once again to elect a mayor in Bet Shemesh. The elections are set for November. Suprisingly, the current 3-time elected mayor, Danny Vaknin, has not been out on the town.
Having arrived in Bet Shemesh in 1994, a year after [...]
